Last summer I visited the beautiful region of Puglia in the south of Italy. This region is located in the heel of the ‘boot’ of italy and is partly surrounded by the Adriatic sea. Although Puglia is not very well known among foreign tourists, more and more tourists and couples seem to get fond of this region and, well at least to me, it’s no mystery why. The beautiful white cities and rocky coastlines are the perfect setting for a romantic holiday, destination wedding or unforgettable honeymoon. Weddingplanners are also offering their services more often in this region.
Although most travel guided will tell you that Ostuni is the most beautiful city of Puglia – she isn’t callled the città bianca without a reason – I think I may have found a city that is even more beautiful than Ostuni: Locorotondo. This city is more quiet and peaceful compared to Ostuni, but is not less picturesque in any way. During the summerdays the streets are almost deserted, except for a few tourists. But at night, the city comes to life. The locals go out to dine at the many lovely restaurants in the city center and there’s music around every corner. Besides the many authentic restaurants, there are also a lot of cool and modern hotspots in Locorotondo. My favourite is Docks 101, where you can have dinner in the evening and dance to house music during the night. Besides everything I’ve already written, Locorotondo is also worth a visit during the Summer because of the Locus Music Festival. This year none other than Bonobo has been added to the line-up of the festival.
Besides the beautiful white cities like Ostuni and Locorotondo, Puglia is also known because of her cliffs and her clear blue sea. These two hallmarks are combined in the beautiful city of Polignano a Mare.
